Basic Purpose:

Using discretion and judgment, this position works with all functional areas within Information Technology Infrastructure team.  The main job function is installing and administering Microsoft Office SharePoint Services. The position is responsible for design and implementation of MOSS environments.  This person will design, and install multiple SharePoint farms administering all components of SP environment. This person will ensure that the system solutions adequately support all planned projects and daily operations. This position is based in Boston, MA.

Principal Responsibilities:

  1. Design/Implement/Manage SharePoint backend infrastructure
  2. Works closely with business units to determine which SharePoint functionality to be made available and create user provisioning and governance controls
  3. Troubleshooting, tracking of incidents/problems, working with clients for resolution, creating technical specifications and support documentation.
  4. This person needs to be an expert in building blocks such as site collections, sites, lists, views, workflows, and libraries, understanding of security and audience management.  This role has much direct interaction with the user community
  5. Acts as a consultant to others within the department to share information and advise other development and infrastructure efforts
  6. Establishes/follows policies on system use and services.
  7. Uses industry best practices, with particular strengths in managing web services or technologies.
  8. Other responsibilities include installation, configuration and troubleshooting of software, and day to day operational support. Member of a rotating on-call team

Pluses: Knowledge and experience in scripting, application deployment for .net and Websphere, Networking, JBoss, weblogic, Tomcat; Linux/UNIX.

Job Requirements:

1.      Bachelor's degree or equivalent education/experience

2.      Minimum of 8 years' related experience in Web technology administration and maintenance.

3.      Minimum of at least 1 SharePoint install (from scratch) for a mid-large size company starting from design to deployment. Knowledge of Web Parts, Excel Services, SharePoint Designer, InfoPath required. Experience at a architect/design level preferred.

4.      Practical experience in creating and running DR and backup strategies for SharePoint

5.      Understanding of Web 2.0 Collaboration; Information Sharing and Knowledge Management.

6.      Technical competence in the following Web environments is a big plus: IIS, MQ, IBM Websphere, Portal, Apache. A solid understanding of Windows foundations and framework strongly preferred.

7.      Ability to think strategically and apply strategy to the Web environment. Knowledge of best practices in Web systems including security, performance, standards, procedures, controls, and Web technical design and architecture.

8.      Strong organizational and large project planning management skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and management skills. Ability to work with all levels of Management.

9.      Previous SharePoint software development experience would be useful. But most of the work is on the server administration side.
