We’ve been back in the Boston area going on three months now - wow how time flies! For me most of that three months were spent in my home office working … which ended a couple of weeks ago – so I’m now officially on sabbatical.
What do I plan on doing (besides the weekly road trip or two and spending time with Sue)?
Get back into the exercise habit. Moving across the country and a change in my daily routine seriously messed up my weekly routine of works.
Get back to (at least) a weekly reflection routine. In Seattle on Sundays (usually), I would take off and spend sometime alone in a cafe to think and reflect about the week. The move and lack of a Starbucks on every corner has slowed this valuable routine … I need to find some new ‘cafes’ and get back to doing this.
Spend some quality time on my open source projects. Last week I finally got the Reflector.PowerCommands to a release point and posted it (more about this later). I still have some work to do to get DBFile to a Release 1 … and I have a huge refactoring and redesign set of ideas to do on that project after v1 is complete.
Make a concentrated effort on clearing out the started book pile. I’ve picked four types of books (some new, some I’ve had for years) to focus on for my sabbatical: Innovation oriented, design oriented, technical and career. Here is the list I’m working on:
Redesign and rewrite my website using MVC. Now that we’ve moved back to Boston, the Washington state ferry in the header image doesn’t make sense. So I might as well take the opportunity to use MVC to rewrite the entire site in order to learn it better … after all my site is not that big or complicated.
Those are my current plans for the next month and a half (or so) … I’ll keep you posted on how things are going and get some book reviews out soon.
