I just got an external drive (250G) and am wondering if any of you readers have any practices that you follow setting up external hard drives.  I don't usually partion drives, but am thinking about partioning this one since it is so big ... but what's the point? space is space isn't it ... if it crashes it crashes doesn't it?

My current plans are to use it for backups, svn repository and a virtual machine or two ... but I'm thinking I should come up with a plan for a good developer setup before I start moving everything to it ... do you guys have any thoughts?
