Thinking of upgrading to 2G of RAM

With the holidays fast approaching and the family has started asking for Christmas ideas ... I have started thinking of the 2 things I would like to have on my laptop that I didn't get when I bought it last year: 2 Gig of RAM and Bluetooth. Currently I have 1Gig of RAM and am happy with it, but the laptop will take up to 2Gig ... so of course I want 2 Gig. I have a question for any readers out there that have a machine with more than 1Gig of RAM ... Does it make a difference?

For me, yes... a HUGE difference esp in these areas:
> VS 2005 & SQL 2005
> Omea Reader
> Virtual PC (duh)

I just got a new work laptop... it initially came with 1GB but we sold the 2x 512 modules on ebay and replaced it with two 1GB modules from Crucial. I was running 1GB for about a week (after I ordered the wrong memeory the first time)... once I moved to 2GB I noticed HUGE improvements.

I run Virtual PC all the time, so for me 2GB is essential.

I'm running sans Virtual Memory (1GB + 256MB RAM) and it feels great:
* Applications load faster and run faster.
* The computer doesn't heat as quickly as it used to.
* Battery life is improved.

So far it sounds like it will be worth it. I don't use VC's much anymore, but I do live in VS.Net 2003, 2005, SQL Server and Omea Reader ...

The memory I need is about half the amount this year as it was last year at this time (I was thinking about getting memory for Christmas last year too). I think it was something like $360x 2 last year, this year it is something like $190x2.

I put 2GB from Crucial (http://www.crucial.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.crucial.com/">http://www.crucial.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.crucial.com/) in the system I built earlier this year and love it. I've worked on several systems where I had < 1GB and then upgraded to 2GB. Noticable difference on all of them.
