This week Greg and I where speaking with Robert about the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (which he convinced me to finally check out after he posted the link on his site - he knows I'm a bit lazy ;) ) and a few other things like running as non-admin afer the Boston .Net User Group Meeting (see Chris's blog for an excellent summary of the meeting).
I personally had heard of it the Baseline Analyzer, but I had never taken the time to download it and check it out. If you don't know what it is -> I suggest you download it and check it out. In my simple words, it is sort of like Windows Update on steriods, but it checks much, much, much more than just the OS components. There is a white paper about it if you really want to know more about it. Some of the products that it checks for patches and such for:
- Exchange Server 2003
- Microsoft Office
- MDAC
- MS VM
- MSXML
- BizTalk Server
- Commerce Server
- SNA server, HIS
If you think you have all the latest patches (or even if you know you don't), go download it and see if you are up-to-date.
