What tools do you use to view *.iso files?

I seem to be getting some lovely comments about the former text to this entry.  Yes, I did take the easy way out to find out what tools people are using... and  you know what - several people helped me out and pointed me to some good tools - check out the comments.

Most CD-burners like Nero have a feature to burn iso files back to the CDs/DVDs.

If you have Virtual PC 2004, you can also capture the .iso file directly and just install Avalon from the iso file to your guest OS in Virtual PC. I guess as a poor man's ISO-extractor, you can also use Virtual PC 2004's Shared Folder feature to then transfer the contents of the ISO file from the guest OS back to the host OS.

Hope this helps,
Minh T. Nguyen.

Or, if don't particulary want to (or can't) burn a CD, use the Virtual CD-ROM control panel,

Works a treat ;)

If you want to mount an ISO I use Daemon Tools (http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/portal/portal.php). It's much better than the tool MS put out, and it's still free. You can have up to four drives and it mounts over (at least) a lan.

That second bit is particularly interesting if your IT guys will rip all your software to ISO's or dump all the MSDN downloads on a network share then all your devs have access to it (licensing issues aside).

# re: What tools do you use to view *.iso files?

just use WinRAR ( http://www.rarsoft.com/ )

Additionally to complete RAR and ZIP file support, WinRAR is able to unpack the following popular archive formats:

CAB
ARJ
LZH
TAR
GZ and TAR.GZ
BZ2 and TAR.BZ2
ACE
UUE
JAR (Java Archive)
ISO (ISO9660 - CD image)
7Z
Z (Unix compress)

# MrP

Just help me with one thing please:
Why would anyone bother with iso files since they just introduce un-needed steps in the processs of viewing or using.
No compression, needs time & skill to burn CD so there's un necessary cost.
Got me beat.
