My belated code camp review

Saturday was great.  Code Camp II was well worth the cost (it was free but cost weekend time).

I started the day off with DonXML (Demsak) talking about how to use the DataMapper pattern in .Net.  The talk really hit home with me because of what I have been doing at work for the last 2+ months, which is working with Rocky Lhotka's CSLA and Kathleen Dollard's code generation method using XML and XSLT.  It was nice to hear someone who actually deals with the problems explain different approaches that work in the real world.

Then I went to Robert Hurlbut talking about developing as non-admin.  Very interesting topic, one of those things on my mental list.  The great thing about this talk was that Robert was non-admin through all the demo work he did.  We got to see some useful scripts he uses and he gave us alot of resources to refer to in certain areas.

Next was Jim Lennox with Messaging Principles in the WSE 2.0.  I went to this talk because I need to get familiar with WSE 2.0 (the release).  Last year in Dave Platt's class, I got a good understanding of the “Technology Preview” - but haven't looked at it much since then.  Jim's talk was very interesting... got to look into WS-Addressing.

Then after a short break I went to Duane Laflotte's talk about Implementing Cryptography in .Net. I first saw Duane at DevDays earlier this year. A very smart (scary smart) and good presenter about security related material which is usually very difficult to explain. Duane's talk was great, he did a great presentation and gave us some good stuff.

The last two talks I went to was with Sam Gentile. The first was a great talk about mobile development with vs.net 2005.  It looks like they have made a lot of great improvements in the development environment for mobile development in vs.net 2005.  The last talk for the day was Sam's Introduction to the .net CLR and Internals, or better known as “It's the runtime stupid”.  I had seen Sam give this talk once before, but this time Sam was really at the top of his game.   It was a great presentation and very very clear.  Sam explained alot of very detailed stuff.  One of the guys said after the talk that it was worth a whole class in just the one an half hours that Sam had.

The blogger event after Code Camp was a good time too.  I got to meet Scott Watermasysk, Jason Bock, Kent Tegels and Carl Franklin

It is always nice to meet these smart guys in the industry and find out that they are just regular guys too.

I played hooky on Sunday and didn't go to any events.  I stayed in my hotel room and finished the sample code and utilities for my up coming resource files article.
