As Adam Weigert points out in the comments of my last entry, I left several things out if in fact I was really going to compare the viewstate or no viewstate scenarios... so a better name would have been something to do with file sizes and network transport.
Over the next few days I will be writing some entries about the process that I am following to improve the performance of an ASP.Net application I am working on. When I talk about performance I am talking about the perceived performance from the user's point of view (which is more than just the application's performance).
