Current Side projects

Beside studying for the last exam I need to get my MCSD (70-300), I am working on a few side projects. Here is a little description of what I am working on:

Code name: Lighthouse
Better known as SqlObjects2Text is an open source utility that is modeled after SQLDump. Our version (Greg, Camille and I) is written in C#, has a few more options and is geared more towards helping build a "database build" system that is stored in plain text (it will have a Windows Forms UI and a console app that can utilize an xml file to script on a schedule).

Code name: Outbound
This is a little utility that runs in the background and pops up some toast (windows) when it is time for you to leave for your preconfigured commuting schedule. This is being built so I don't have to run all the ways from South Station to North Station in a hurry to catch my trains. I am planning on building in a web service where the exe can get updated or new schedules.

Code name: Downstream
This is a neat little library that is going to help me do use the following types of urls when the file really exists in a image field in a SQL Server 2000 database: http://localhost/site/files/jason.jpg. It uses url re-writing and some file upload/download stuff. It should also solve a problem I have in needing to store XSLT files in a database, but wanting to work on them as a text file (not some little textarea on a web page).

This week while traveling, I hope to finish up downstream, as well as finish the majority of my studying for the 70-300 exam. Redmond here I come!

PS. If Ken or Gary are reading this entry (the department heads) - if the ask me to stay in Redmond - I just might ;)

Good luck with them asking you to stay. If they don't you'll have to be creative about finding your own way back out...
